At the heart of Nice, the capital of the French Riviera, the Palais de la Méditerranée celebrates its rebirth. This legendary establishment, a temple of the arts and of gaming in the inter-war years, since the 5th of January 2004, offers the best of the past and the present under the some roof. Behind its majestic Art Deco façade that has remained intact, dominating the Promenade des Anglais and the Baie des Anges, the Palais is about to become a new reference in international luxury hotels. The Palais de lo Méditerranée has decided to invest considerably in order to offer a range of services rarely achieved while maintaining the soul of a place that still bears the hallmark of the past. Its sole objective is to become the new luxury hotel reference in Nice, far the French Riviera and far the world. So, after a blackout of a dozen or so years - is it not true that the sun sometimes need a rest? - the Palais de la Méditerranée has returned to its first loves: top-of-the-range comfort, refinement and excellence with luxury four star hotel service, fine gastronomic catering, an auditorium staging international entertainment artists, relaxation, leisure and business meeting areas... The Palais de la Méditerranée is now a modern, complete and prestigious complex designed by architects Olivier Clément Cacoub and Maurice Giauffret. |
The interior design is by SM Design and Sybille de Margerie. The challenge ahead is to successfully establish the perfect alchemy between the Mediterranean spirit and the 'thirties' soul of the place through the most contemporary comfort facilities. The visual identity of the Palais de la Méditerranée also harks back to this immensely creative period. The typography used and the symbol of the "Muse" ore largely inspired by one of the bas-reliefs on the façade and ore an elegant and brilliant reference to the lifestyle of the pre-war years. Nice had been waiting far this event far a long time: the resurrection of the legend, the symbol of this eternal Riviera, bubbling aver with life, parties and luxury. |
Preserving the best of the past
This incredible white cruise liner was born on 10th January 1929. Facing the sea, set on the Promenade des Anglais, it was a luxury showcase that astonished the world. For its inauguration, the most prestigious guests accepted the invitation of American millionaires Franck and Florence Gould, already known far being the inspired "creators" of Juan-les-Pins. Designed by Charles and Marcel Dalmas, two Nice architects, the building was impressive. Its monumental art deco façade, work sculpted by Sartori and now listed, invited visitors into a vast white marbled lobby. |
There, amazed visitors would ecstatically admire the extent of the technical feats and beauty on display. A twenty metre wide staircase, sparkling chandeliers, marble, stained-glass windows, precious wood, gaming rooms with 7m wide picture windows looking onto the sea, a sublime 1,000 seat theatre... The magic of the place worked immediately. The Palais de la Méditerranée became an instant legend. |
The greatest names in the arts and entertainment world contributed to this legend. Imagine crossing Josephine Baker and her little pink pig, a smiling Maurice Chevaliers so kind to the personnel, Sacha Guitry jokily conversing with Jules Romain... Moreover, if you listen carefully, you will hear some unforgettable voices that still resound in these walls...
