Mougins is without
doubt one of the most wonderful places to visit on the Côte
d'Azur. Only 15 minutes from Cannes, this superb medieval village
is set among pines, olives and cyprus trees. Surrounded by forests
Mougins has kept the quality of its environment intact, and offers
visitors, from the height of 260 metres, a panoramic view of the
"baie de Cannes", the Lérins islands, Grasse and
the "Préalpes".
As soon as you
arrive in the village, you will be seduced by the charm of the narrow
roads, bordered by colourful flowers and superb ancient houses.
Picturesque door-ways with each stone carefully restored, beautifully
designed window-frames.
With the imprint
of the past subtly conserved, the harmony of the colours and quality
of light has seduced many artists and celebrities who have chosen
to stay in Mougins, including Picasso (who spent the last 15 years
of his life here), Cocteau, Fernand Léger, Paul Eluard, Man
Ray, Winston Churchill, Christian Dior, Catherine Deneuve, Edith
Piaf, Jacques Brel...amongst others.
With its typically
Provençal atmosphere, its many art-galleries and highly-rated
restaurants give it indescribable charm, Mougins has always had
close links with the art and cultural world. Discover the Notre
Dame de Vie ("Our Lady of Life") renovated Chapel, located
2 km south-east of the village, overlooking the road into Le Cannet.
If you are a collectors' car fan, make sure you visit the Automobile
Museum.
On the village
outskirts, luxurious properties are hidden behind magnificent Mediterranean
parks and gardens. It is not just by chance that Mougins today continues
to be one of the "must-sees" on the Cote d'Azur. While
you are near the coast and all its cultural events, at the same
time you can take advantage of the quieter life found inland.
