With its 6 km
of fine sandy beaches Sainte Maxime provides the most sought after
pleasures of the Mediterranean: the incomparable waters of a gulf,
a long stretch of sand so rare on the Riviera enabling unrestricted
enjoyment of all beach activities. The Casino beach extends into
the centre of town: everything can be reached on foot and all the
shops are nearby.
You should enter
the old town by walking through the lively pedestrian streets, and
then continue on towards the superb gardens ot the "Promenade".
The walk ends up on the pier overlooking the gulf.
The wonderful
weather and the beautiful location have attracted artists poets
and writers for many years. Jean de Brunhoff, the creator of Babar
the Elephant, lived in the area for a long time.
While strolling
through Sainte Maxime you will find umbrella pines, hundred year
old palm trees, giant mimosa bushes, flowers and plants of the Mediterranean.
You will also discover the traditional Provençal atmosphere
in the paved streets of the town centre, in the craftsmens
displays or the market inundated with the colours and subtle scents
of the flowers, vegetables and fruit.
An exceptional
climate, air and water quality, blue and green areas, Sainte Maxime
combines all the natural conditions to maintain the physical and
psychological wellbeing of its residents. The private or community
facilities enable everyone to practice their chosen activity. The
sailing club and the scuba diving clubs provide instruction for
those who love the sea.
Discriminating
tourists will be delighted by the beaches in the center, and by
those on the way out of the city, La Croisette Beach, for example.
The best beaches are to the west of St. Maxime and in particular,
La Nartelle.
The port
Originally a fishing port, enlarged in 1972, today it has 765 berths
welcoming holiday makers who are attracted by its ideal geographic
location and splendid setting. In fact, situated between Italy and
Marseilles, opposite Saint Tropez, the port is easily accessible
in all weathers because it is sheltered from both the Mistral and
the East wind. If you add to this the alternating unspoilt deep
narrow creeks and sandy beaches, one is not surprised why it is
so heartily approved of by yachtsmen. In the heart of town, holiday
makers find themselves within easy reach of all manner of occupations
(galleries, shops, markets, restaurants, discos). They can chose
between the peace and calm of their boats or joining the frolic
of the animated streets.
