Théoule-sur-Mer,
or the clash of the fiery-red rocks of the Massif de l'Estérel
and the cobalt blue of the Mediterranean. In this striking setting,
creeks and sandy beaches offer all the pleasures of bathing and
underwater diving. The forest park of La Pointe de l'Aiguille covers
a coastline area of 17.5 acres, providentially preserved on both
sides from the Corniche de l'Estérel. This small seaside
resort is also a privileged mooring spot for boatsmen.
Since Antiquity,
Théoule sur Mer has been considered as a shelter for boats,
thanks to a river of fresh water that arrived in the bay of the
city. This natural advantage was largely enjoyed by the sailers,
who didn't need to come alongside to fulfill their stock of water.
Located in the shelter of a small creek in the Esterel Théoule
sur Mer was protected by a tower that was demolished in 1648. In
the 19th century, fishermen set up home in the Cardanne Cave. Until
1929, Théoule was part of Mandelieu but has been independent
since then.
Nowadays, Théoule
sur Mer is a quiet holiday resort with attractive beaches, creeks
set among red cliffs, hiking paths through the Esterel mountains,
walks through the Pointe de l'Aiguille park. Leasures are most important
in Théoule's everyday life, and numerous sporting and cultural
activities are available inside the town and its neighbourhood:
walking in great and preserved landscapes, water skiing, scuba-skin
diving, horseriding.
