 Everyone is familiar with the cliché images: luxury hotels, Rolls and casinos, stylish boutiques, the Film Festival... but reality is very different! Get away from the beaten track to explore Le Suquet, the old town of Cannes, the charm of the old harbour, the Forville market are the Lérins islands. In winter as in summer, it's still a pleasure to discover Cannes. Right in front of the Splendid, prolonging the Croisette, these broad alleys bordered by plane trees are home to strollers, boule players and antiques and craft markets. Cannes has been nominated the most sportive town of France from the magazine L'Equipe, because Cannes offers a big choice amongst all the sports disciplines. All around Cannes there are many nice places that are worth a visit. A paradise of sunshine, greenery, calm and freshness... Sainte Marguerite island with its 170 hectares of forest for the pleasure of hikers, and also the Fort Royal, former state prison, now the Museum of the Sea are well worth a visit. Saint-Honorat island is a private estate belonging to the Monastery. But you can visit the old fortified abbey and stroll through the lavender and vineyards cultivated by the marks. Saint Paul de Vence is one of the most beautiful villages in the back country; in Biot the tradition of glass-blowing still survives; Antibes awaits you in its Provencal market, and in the old town; Mougins is a famous gastronomic centre; in Nice you can visit the flower market and the Saleya market. |
